Programs

In these beginning drawing classes, children will learn to draw a castle or palace, focusing on basic geometric shapes and patterns. It will also include a draw bridge, towers, windows, flags, banners and a Heraldry shield. The project is inspired by William Gillette’s castle that was built overlooking the Connecticut River. To further their drawing skills, children will choose from 4 different designs to create their own personal flag or banner learning to draw animals and symbols and Northern Gothic Letters. As children gain confidence in drawing, they’ll move along to design a shield that illustrates a favorite hobby, sport or school subject. The shield will also feature their initials. Finally, they’ll tackle a stained glass window design using geometric and free-form shapes and tissue paper cut-outs. Voila children are ready to inhabit and protect their castle or palace!

All classes are held on Wednesdays, 4-5:30pm at Spectrum Gallery, 61 Main Street, Centerbrook. Cost is $125 per child. Dates are as follows: Jan. 21; Jan.28; Feb. 4; Feb. 11; Feb. 18.
